Waging Aggressive War
September 1st, 1939:
Poland was invaded and
Agreements were broken
"Despite repeated and solemn assurances of peaceful intentions, they invaded Denmark and Norway on 4/9/1940; Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg on 5/10/1940; Yugoslavia and Greece on 4/6/1941."
- Justice Robert H. Jackson
The Holocaust
"Who would not be moved by ... the cries of children in the night as they were hurled alive into furnaces because the camp had run out of gas for its chambers? …What is one to make of an image of German soldiers, smiling for the photographer, as they shoot naked women in a ditch?"
- Douglas O. Linder, University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law
Life in the Camps
Condemnation
The Allies condemned and began to gather evidence on the atrocities committed by the Nazis starting after the Moscow Conference in October, 1943.

Secretary of State, Cordell Hull, was the American representative at the Moscow Conference. Scroll over picture for his quote

“The reason I got along so well with the Russians [at the Moscow Conference] was because...I [said] I would hold a secret trial [of] Hitler and his gang… and … shoot them all...Then I would let the world know about it a couple of days later."

This declaration started the Allied conversation on the way in which war criminals were to be tried postwar.
